Saturday, June 27th - 7:00 p.m. at the Fairway Grille. Dinner with Joseph O’Neill, author of Netherland, winner of the 2009 Pen Faulkner Award. Michiko Katuni of The New York Times called O’Neill’s most recent book, Netherland a “stunning new novel with echoes of Fitzgerald’s masterpiece, The Great Gatsby.” James Woods, in The New Yorker, called Netherland “exquisitely written. A large fictional achievement and one of the most remarkable post-colonial books I have ever read.” The New York Times Magazine on May 3rd in their article on Obama said he was currently reading the book Netherland.
Friday, July 10th - 7:30 p.m. Join the week-long celebration of Barrett Township’s 150th Anniversary. Live music and Ice Cream Social at the Buck Hill Falls pool will be followed by the sing-along movie Mama Mia with the music of Abba.
Saturday, August 8th - 8:00 p.m. at the Buck Hill Falls Tennis Club, A concert with Laura Benanti, Broadway theatre, television, film actress and 2008 TONY AWARD WINNER for her role in Gypsy - her third Tony nomination. Benanti is currently playing a leading role at the New York Public Theatre in Christopher Durang’s critically acclaimed Why Torture is Wrong and the People Who Love Them.
Saturday, August 15th - 7:00 p.m. at the Fairway Grille. Dinner with Dr. Robin Goodman, clinical psychologist, author and art therapist. She will talk about how children and teens live in a world that is different from the ones their parents and grandparents grew up in. Parents and grandparents will not want to miss this. She has taught, published and lectured in The United States and abroad, and has made hundreds of appearances on national TV shows, including The Today Show, ABC Primetime, Good Day New York, and Oprah. Dr. Goodman is also past president of the Art Therapy Association of America. Dinner reservations through the Fairway Grille are $30.00 per person inclusive.
Saturday, August 29th - 8:00 p.m. at the Buck Hill Tennis Club. The International Opera Alliance in collaboration with The Virginia Opera will present soprano Mary Elizabeth Williams, tenor Daniel Snyder and pianist Joseph Walsh in An Evening of Extraordinary Singing. Their program will consist of music from operas, operettas and Broadway shows in a cabaret style setting. Liquid refreshments will be available.
Sunday, September 6th - 6:00 p.m. Join in an-end-of summer farewell picnic at our favorite spot - Metzger’s Farm. Bring your food, family and friends. Grills will be provided. Live music will be provided. The rain location will be at the Tennis Club.
Barrett Township’s 150th Anniversary
Join Foxhowe Saturday, July 11th as we present Buck Hill Fall’s contribution to the week-long events of the Barrett Township’s 150th Anniversary. We will be inviting members of the township for an ice cream social and live music followed by a sing-along version of the hit movie Mama Mia, with the music of Abba. Event will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Buck Hill Falls Pool with the movie to follow at 9:00 p.m. Bring the family, chairs and blankets and join your voices with our fellow township celebrants.

2009 Pen Faulkner Award Winner
Joseph O’Neill’s NETHERLAND is a brilliant novel about a European man living in Manhattan in the Chelsea Hotel after 9/11. It was selected as one of the 10 best books of 2008 by The New York Times. Told in a lyrical, mesmerizing voice, his journey involves an immersion in the cricketing subculture of New York. Michiko Katuni of The New York Times said, “a stunning new novel with echoes of Fitzgerald’s masterpiece, The Great Gatsby. James Wood, in The New Yorker said “exquisitely written…A large fictional achievement and one of the most remarkable post-colonial books I have ever read.” The Sunday Magazine section of the New York Times in an article on President Obama on May 3rd, reported that, “Our President was currently reading Netherland.”
Joseph O’Neill was born in Ireland and raised in Holland. He received a law degree from Cambridge University and worked as a barrister in London. He writes regularly for The Atlantic Monthly and is author of two previous novels, This Is The Life and The Breezes, and a family history, Blood Dark Track, which was a New York Times Notable Book. He lives with his wife and three children in Manhattan.
